That’s after some remarkable adventures in wonderful Italy.

We’d planned to use GPRS cellular modems to stay in touch but a combination of language problems and lousy service providers prevented that.

Still, our real estate transaction was finally successful, and provided the plot for a decent Comic Opera.

We fought off Brigands (the vendor and his evil accomplices); we were ably assisted by Faithful Allies (Italian friends, public officials, the local people); our Trusty Steed provider (Avis) happily replaced steed 1 (clutch blew up on vertiginous hill), and was relaxed about the effects of a panicked porcupine charging steed 2 (they charge backwards, so never stand behind an unhappy porcupine).

Mrs G basked in the ogling of all males aged between 15 and 85, while of course remaining virtuous (if somewhat smug).
I overcame a Deadly Malady (cold), but drove expertly at high speed on thin tracks over mountains made slick by first rain in 3 months, encouraged by (I think ) by cries of appreciation from passengers at each skid.

We fought off Beasts (racing rats in the ceiling of our lodging house, herds of Tiger Mosquitoes, and of course the porcupine).

Gandalf Junior and The Gandalfette jetted in to mark the transaction in decorous English style, only to be swept up in a semi-organized riot as all participants arrived to celebrate the victory.

Meanwhile, I’m pleased to see the war in Iraq goes well, and that the Israelis comprehensively busted Syria’s state-of-the-art Russian missile defenses -the Mullahs should be very very worried about that.

The bad news is the Brits just made smoking and driving a crime, continuing their slide into socialist hell.

Then there’s this:

Nearly one out of every five Democrats thinks the world will be better off if America loses the war in Iraq, according to the FOX News Opinion Dynamics Poll released Thursday.

The percentage of Democrats (19 percent) who believe that is nearly four times the number of Republicans (5 percent) who gave the same answer. Seven percent of independents said the world would be better off if the U.S. lost the war.

So now we know 19% of Democrats, 7% of Independents, and 5% of Republicans are completely and utterly batty.
