Pelosi’s attempt to get a dedicated passenger airliner highlights the increasing corruption of our left-wing elites – the Dems in the US and New Labour in the UK.
The Bush administration has agreed to provide House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with regular access to an Air Force passenger jet, but the two sides are negotiating whether she will get the big aircraft she wants and who she may take as passengers, according to congressional and administration sources.
A congressional source said that Rep. John P. Murtha, chairman of House Appropriations subcommittee on defense, which controls the Pentagon’s spending, has telephoned administration officials to urge them to give the speaker what she wants.
Mrs. Pelosi wants a larger aircraft that can fly to her home district of San Francisco nonstop. She also wants to be able to ferry other members of the congressional delegation, family members and her staff.
“She’s effectively taking a bird out of the fleet,” said a defense source. “It will most directly impact the House, because they’re the heavy users of the large aircraft. Congress looks at that Andrews fleet as their Hertz rent-a-car.”
She argues that since she is – horrors! – number 2 in line to the President, she can’t take the risk of flying with us rabble, and neither can her family, aides etc. This is simple corruption – she’s taking tax dollars for her own benefit, just like any NoKo tyrant or Iranian Mullah.
And she’s clearly not alone if Congress does indeed use the planes at Andrews AFB as their private Hertz!
Brit New Labour’s Hertz is the Queens flight that supposed to ferry HM about:
The prime minister has been accused of using the Queen’s flight as a “private taxi service” after new figures show he has racked up flights worth £1.2 million since 1997.
Tony Blair has used the 32 (the Royal Squadron) more than 670 times since coming to power, including to go on holiday with his family in 2004.
Other ministers have also used the flights, in particular for trips to Brussels, most of them from the Foreign Office, Department for International Development and the Ministry of Defence, although the home secretary and the chancellor are also registered as users.
As with the US, this explains why Brit air transport is so dreadful – after the horrors of leaving the UK after Christmas, our family is meeting elsewhere in future. If the people making laws are insulated from their effect, they legislate irresponsibly.
Politicians of the right in both nations are mostly as vain and incompetent as their lefty equivalents, but in my experience much less corrupt. That’s partially because the right tends to be wealthier, but mainly because they have deeper moral roots.
Corruption over private planes is chump change. Much more seriously, the Dems are so obsessed with personal gain, they’re seeking our defeat in Iraq to ensure they’ll stay in power.
In my book, that’s a hanging offence.
