The London Times says the GWOT makes Muslims anti-American, but fails to read the data. That actually reveals that Muslims want the US to free them.
The War on Terror has radicalised Muslims around the world to unprecedented levels of anti-American feeling, according to the largest survey of Muslims ever to be conducted.
But the raw data tells a quite different story:
Percentage with unfavourable view of US in 2005 (all increased since 9/11 except where indicated:
79% Saudi Arabia
52% Iran (down from 63 in 2001)
65% Pakistan (down from 69 in 2001)
All 5 nations are fear-state dictatorships, but they’re not all the same.
The Saudi Arabian, Jordanian and Moroccan dictators can reasonably consider themselves safe from being deposed by the US. But Iran and Pakistan have a hostile US military right next door, and it might well depose their ruling thugs.
So the survey really tells us Muslims with some prospect of being liberated by the US have become happier with it, while those lacking that hope have become unhappier.
Which tells us is Muslims are sensible people who want to share our freedoms.
